Dear STM Families, I was lucky enough to attend the STM Trunk or Treat event for the first time last Sunday in our school parking lot with my husband, Mike, and our 3-year old granddaughter, Rory. It was such a beautiful day and such a flurry of fun with our little one. What struck both my husband and me the most, though, was the feeling of FAMILY as we worked our way through the hustle and bustle of happy and excited children amongst the caring and light-hearted adults. Our school community reverberates the joy of our Catholic faith and the fact that God dwells and acts in us! As Pope Francis says, “The Church is not a refuge for sad people. The Church is a house of joy.” You exemplify the joy of our Church by sending your children to a school where they can experience prayer and faithfulness to His message in every aspect of their education lives. I see you sharing His love through your tender care of these children and by your time and effort to volunteer and share in our school’s mission. During this month of thanksgiving, please know that you are in my daily prayers for sharing this joy with me and our STM community. THANK YOU TO OUR HOME & SCHOOL PARENTS: We feel so spoiled by your generous and delicious meals during Student Learning Conferences last week. The food from Dos de Oros was a warm welcoming treat for dinner on Thursday night. We then returned on Friday morning to an awesome array of breakfast treats on Friday morning. Thank you so much for your time, effort, and care for our teachers and staff! HAT? COAT? MITTENS? Does your child arrive at school adequately dressed for the wintery weather? Please keep in mind that the weather can quickly change and our students go outside every day. We have seen students on these recent chilly days without a coat or other warm attire for recess, travelling to church, or other outdoor activities. Thanks for your help! SAVE THE DATE FOR OUR CHRISTMAS TREE LIGHTING MUSIC PROGRAM: Please save the date! St. Thomas More will be hosting our first ALL-SCHOOL STM Tree Lighting Ceremony on Tuesday, December 7, 2021! Start time to be announced. This is going to be an outdoor school-wide function. All students PreK-8th grade will be performing. Details regarding that evening's event will be coming in the near future. We are searching for all of our Hallmark lovers to help make this a special time for all. PARENT ATTENDANCE AT SCHOOL MASS: Our students are back to serving at Mass and serving as lectors at our school liturgical celebrations. Seats are limited in the pews, but if your child is serving or lectoring, please feel free to come to Mass and sit in the choir loft or the cry room. Our students attend Mass each week at 2:10 p.m. on the following days: Wednesdays: Kindergarten, grades 2, 7, 8 Thursdays: Grades 1, 3, 4, 5, 6 Please let me know if you have any questions. BRICKS 4 KIDS--SESSION 2 SIGN-UPS: Bricks 4 Kidz® enrichment classes are designed to be educational and FUN! We teach children principles of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) utilizing motorized LEGO® models. Every lesson is unique and designed to engage a child's mind. STM NIGHT--AVILA UNIVERSITY MEN’S BASKETBALL: Avila Men’s Basketball program is hosting a Saint Thomas More Day on Saturday, 11/27 vs Oklahoma Wesleyan University. Game time is 5 p.m. at the Mabee Fieldhouse on the Avila campus. All parents and STM kids that wear an STM item (sweatshirt, T-shirt or basketball uniform, spirit wear) will be allowed into the game for free. The first 25 STM kids in the door get a free bag of popcorn. We are told that Catholics should pray for the dead throughout the year, especially on the anniversary of a loved one’s death. ... It's a comforting thought for many, and one that encourages many Catholics, especially during the month of November, to offer their prayers for the Holy Souls. Following is a prayer you might consider praying with your family: DAILY PRAYER FOR THE HOLY SOULS: Immortal God, holy Lord, Father and Protector of all You have created, we raise our hearts to You today for those who have passed out of this mortal life. In Your loving mercy, Father of all, be pleased to receive them in Your heavenly company, and forgive the failings and faults they may have done from human frailty. Your only Son, Christ, our Saviour, suffered so cruelly that He might deliver them from the second death. By his merits may they share in the glory of His victory over sin and death. For all the faithful who have died we pray, but in particular for those dear to us, parents, relatives and friends. nor do we forget all who did good to us while on earth, who helped us by their prayers, sacrifice and example. We pray also for any who may have done us harm, and stand in special need of Your forgiveness. May the merits and prayers of our Virgin Mother, Mary, and those of all the Angels and Saints, speak for us and assist them now. This we ask in Christ's name. Amen.
