Cyclone Chatter 2/2/23

Dear STM Families,
The crowds were screaming, cheering, and waving their posters as the sweaty, focused players dove and drove to the ball in hopes of a victory!! No, I’m not speaking of a Chiefs game–I’m referring to the dogfight that took place in the STM gym this afternoon in the annual 8th Grade v. STM Staff volleyball tournament.  The teachers claimed victory while the 8th graders campaigned for another game to display their prowess.  Fun times!  An excellent final event in our action-packed and spiritual 2023 Catholic Schools Week!
You would think that we would want to jump back into a ‘normal’ school week next week–but how can we do that when our KANSAS CITY CHIEFS ARE GOING TO THE SUPER BOWL?!!  SOOOOOO, we are going to jump on the Chiefs Kingdom bandwagon and support our KC Chiefs each day next week.  The weeklong celebration will include a service aspect–a “Souper Bowl’ food & supplies collection for those who are less fortunate.  Prizes for the class who bring in the MOST CANS OR ITEMS!!
Please look at the calendar below and at the blurbs beneath the calendar to help your child participate in each day of STM & Chiefs Kingdom super-fan support for our team!
I look forward to seeing many of you at our STM Auction Event on Saturday!  We hope to raise some significant dollars to support your child’s learning!!

‘SOUPER’ BOWL FOOD COLLECTION NEXT WEEK AT STM:
The STM school community will give back to the Kansas City area–a ‘SOUPER’ BOWL food drive!  Our Student Council and grandparent’s club are organizing this collection.  There will be a prize for the class that brings in the most supplies for those who are less fortunate.
We have been told that the items below are the ones most needed right now:
 
Please send your items to school in a bag or box with your child.  Our StuCo members will collect and count them each day from each classroom.  Thank you in advance for helping us with this school wide service project!
 
CHIEFS SUPER BOWL SPIRIT WEEK:
Monday - Friday
Weeklong Super Bowl Drive - Sponsored by STUCO & The Cyclone Circle: This drive benefits Heart-N-Hand Ministries.  Items most needed are: canned soups, canned carrots, dish soap, shampoo and conditioner, tampons, pancake mix and syrup, chili beans, spaghetti sauce, pasta, white rice, box potatoes, baking goods, peanut butter and jelly, canned chicken, applesauce, shelf stable milk, crackers, and juice.

STM AUCTION:  Saturday, February 4th:
St. Thomas More 'Be More' Auction and Dance is this February 4, 2023.  Tickets are on sale now through our auction website www.stmauction.org.  Join your STM community and help raise funds for our school and parish.  Seats are limited, so purchase your tickets today!

STM FATHER-DAUGHTER DANCE COMING UP!:
STM Father/Daughter Valentine’s dance will take place February 11th from 6-8 in Flanagan Hall. Cost:  $25 a couple, $5 for each added girl. Cash, check to BMA foundation or Venmo Meg Burke @meg-burke-5.

Dear STM Parents,
You have one of the toughest jobs in the world.  It is your duty to feed, clothe, nurture, support, and guide your children on their path to heaven.  From the time you rise in the morning until you can finally rest your head in bed, your children are at the forefront of all that you do.  We are thankful for you.  We pray for you.  We know that you are the reason God put all of us together in this community.  We thank God for you!
