Cyclone Chatter 2-9-23

Dear STM Families,
Today’s Snow Day was as big of a surprise for me as it was for you! My morning began with phone communications with the other SW POD principals at 5:15 a.m. as we all watched the weather and traffic reports of the bad timing of the downpour of wet snow.  Please know that the decision to cancel school is not taken lightly, as I know the disruption this makes for homes with small children.  We try to get the decision taken care of as early as possible so you can make appropriate plans.
 
I want to share another decision made regarding a POSSIBLE ‘Red Snow Day’ for next Wednesday, Feb. 15th–the date set for a Kansas City Chiefs victory parade. This was another topic of discussion amongst the SW POD principals at a diocesan meeting yesterday. I want to share this with you NOW so you can make preliminary plans in advance.  IF, and only IF our Kansas City Chiefs take care of business this weekend, we will have no school that day to allow our school communities to join in the festivities.
 
STM students and staff have had a GREAT time dressing up as Coach Andy Reid (the winning classes get cheeseburgers tomorrow!), eating hotdogs and playing tailgate games at lunch, and sporting Super Bowl Super Star sunglasses as KC Wolf galloped through the hallways. We appreciate all of your efforts and support to make this such a fun and memorable week for our students! Thank you to our Cyclone Circle grandparents for organizing and assisting in our ‘Souper Bowl’ Food Drive (see more below about what we still need), too.  This has truly been a community-strong week!

‘SOUPER’ BOWL FOOD COLLECTION–TOMORROW IS THE LAST DAY!!:
The STM school community will give back to the Kansas City area–a ‘SOUPER’ BOWL food drive!  Our Student Council and grandparent’s club are organizing this collection.  The class who brings in the MOST ITEMS will win a SWEATS & HOODIES DAY!!.
 
Please send your items to school in a bag or box with your child.  Our StuCo members will collect and count them from each classroom.  Thank you for helping us with this school wide service project!
 
CHIEFS SUPER BOWL SPIRIT WEEK:
Monday - Friday
Weeklong Super Bowl Drive - Sponsored by STUCO & The Cyclone Circle: This drive benefits Heart-N-Hand Ministries.  Items most needed are: canned soups, canned carrots, dish soap, shampoo and conditioner, tampons, pancake mix and syrup, chili beans, spaghetti sauce, pasta, white rice, box potatoes, baking goods, peanut butter and jelly, canned chicken, applesauce, shelf stable milk, crackers, and juice.

STM FATHER-DAUGHTER DANCE IS SATURDAY NIGHT!:
STM Father/Daughter Valentine’s dance will take place February 11th from 6-8 in Flanagan Hall.
Cost:  $25 a couple, $5 for each added girl. Cash, check to BMA foundation or Venmo Meg Burke @meg-burke-5.
